More Than Wood – Every peice has a story

Handcrafted in Scotland. Made to Mean Something

At Designs by Jacob Manning, Our Wooden Quaichs, Spurtles are hand crafted using Traditional and modern techniques and carefully selected wood.

Inspired by Scottish heritage and made with intention, these aren’t mass-produced gifts, they’re meaningful objects designed to be used and passed on.

I have been turning wood and making Quaichs for over 30 years.

Why I Make These Pieces

In a world of mass-produced gifts, it’s easy for the meaning to get lost.

I started Designs by Jacob Manning to create wooden pieces that carry intention – items that feel right in a story, and become part of life’s important moments.

Quaichs Made by Hand using Traditional and Modern techniques

Every item is individually handcrafted using carefully selected wood and traditional techniques. From shaping, sanding to finishing with our own blend of oils and waxes, each piece is worked by hand, meaning no two are the same.

This isn’t about speed or volume – it’s about quality, character, and craftmanship.

Rooted in Scottish Tradition

Many of the designs are inspired by Scottish heritage – especially the Quaich, a centuries-old cup of friendship traditionally shared to symbolise trust and unity.

These traditions still matter. They remind us to slow down, mark moments properly, and connect with one and other.

Our Mission

Our mission is to craft timeless wooden Quaichs that honour the spirit of unity, love and tradition. Driven by a passion for heritage and craftmanship, we create each Quaich to serve as a meaningful symbol in wedding ceremonies – a shared cup representing the bond between two lives (families) joining as one.

Through our work, we aim to bring beauty, authenticity and lasting significance to life’s most cherished moments.
